Ummah Messages
- What are Messages in Ummah?
- Messages are one-to-one private conversations between Muslim Pro users inside the Ummah community. They let you continue a conversation that started on a post, follow up with someone you follow, or stay in touch with people in the ummah. Messages are private between you and the recipient. They are not visible publicly on your profile or in the feed.
- Who can message me?
- It depends on whether your profile is public or private:
- Public profiles: Anyone in Ummah can send you a message.
- Private profiles: Only people you've messaged first can message you. Other users can't initiate a conversation with you until you reach out to them.
- You can switch your profile between public and private at any time in Profile Privacy settings. You can also block specific users from messaging you, regardless of your privacy setting.
- How do I start a new conversation?
- There are three ways to start a conversation:
- Open someone's profile and tap Message.
- Tap Share on an Ummah post or Inspiration card and select Send in a message.
- Open the Messages inbox from the notification bell area in Ummah and tap the compose icon, then search for a user.
- Where do I find my messages?
- Tap the messages icon in the top app bar to open your Messages inbox. All your conversations live in a single list, sorted by the most recent activity.
- What can I send in a message?
- You can send text and images. Images can be shared directly from an Ummah post or Inspiration card (e.g. a Surah or Hadith card) via the Share → Send in a message flow. Alternatively, you can send an image through your phone gallery or take a picture with the phone's camera. If a message can't be sent you'll see a "Message not sent" state with the option to retry.
- Can I react to messages?
- Yes. Long-press a message bubble to open the Reactions sheet and pick an emoji reaction. Reactions appear under the message bubble for both users.
- What actions can I take on my own messages?
- Long-press your own message to:
- Copy the text.
- Delete the message (it is removed for both you and the recipient — they'll see a "Message removed").
- React with an emoji.
- What actions can I take on someone else's messages?
- Long-press another user's message to:
- Copy the text.
- React with an emoji.
- You cannot delete another user's message. To report inappropriate behaviour, use the Report option from the conversation overflow menu (•••)
- How do I block someone?
- Open the conversation, tap the overflow menu (•••), and select Block. Once blocked:
- They can no longer send you messages or see your profile in the same way.
- Existing messages from them are hidden from your inbox.
- Their posts are hidden in your feed
- They are not notified that they've been blocked.
- You can unblock from your profile or chat window at any time.
- How do I report a user?
- Open the conversation, tap the overflow menu (•••), and select Report.
- Our moderation team reviews all reports and will take action where community guidelines have been broken.
- Are my messages private?
- Yes. Messages are private between you and the other user. They are not visible publicly, do not appear on your profile, and are not shared with other users. Our moderation team only reviews conversations that are reported.
- As an in-app reminder when you start a new conversation:
- Messages are private between users. If you encounter inappropriate behaviour, you can report it, and our team will review and take action. Only share personal information with people you trust.
- Will I get push notifications for messages?
- Yes. You will receive a push notification when:
- A user sends you a new message.
- Someone reacts to your message.
- Message-specific notification controls aren't available right now, but you can manage app notifications at the device level through your phone's system settings.
- Can I edit a message after sending it?
- No. Messages cannot be edited after sending. If you made a mistake, you can delete the message and send a new one.
- What happens if my message fails to be sent?
- You'll see a "Message not sent" indicator next to the message with a retry option. Common reasons: no internet connection, the recipient has blocked you, or the recipient's account is no longer available.
- What happens if the other user's profile disappears?
- If the user has deleted their account, been suspended, or blocked you, you'll see a "This profile cannot be found" state when you try to open the conversation. You can still delete the conversation from your inbox.
- How do I delete a conversation?
- From a message window, tap the overflow menu (•••), tap on delete conversation
- Deleting removes the conversation from your inbox only. The other user still sees their copy unless they delete it too. You'll be asked to confirm before deleting.
- Can I share content from other parts of Muslim Pro into a message?
- Yes. From Ummah posts and Inspiration cards (Surah, Hadith, Dua), tap Share → Send in a message, choose a recipient, add an optional caption, and send. The recipient sees the shared image/card as a rich preview inside the conversation.
- What are the community guidelines for messages?
- Be kind and respectful to the ummah. Any hate, harassment, spam, sexually explicit content, and sharing of others' personal information is not welcome. Violations may result in message removal, restrictions on messaging, or account suspension.
- Where can I get help if something goes wrong?
- Tap your profile → Help & Support → Messaging for help articles. If you've reported a serious issue (harassment, safety concern), our moderation team will follow up via email if needed.
