When does Ramadan 2018 (1439 AH) start?

When does the Ramadan start?

The month of Ramadan (رمضان‎) is the 9th month of the Islamic calendar (Hijri).

It is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad (swt) (al-Quran, al-Baqara, 185).

When does Ramadan 2018 (1439 AH) start?

The month of Ramadan starts with the first visual sighting of the new moon (crescent moon) which Muslim authorities and/or scholars usually perform on the night following the 29th day of Sha`ban. If the weather conditions do not permit the new moon to be sighted, then Sha`ban has 30 days, and this 30th day is the day of doubt.

The start of Ramadan 2018 (1439 AH) should be around May 15th depending on your country

The Muslim Pro application estimates the first day of the new moon by applying standard astronomical calculations and adjusts it if necessary once the crescent moon has been sighted.

Please note that you will need to wait for Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court which will announce when the Ramadan starts after confirming seeing the moon crescent.
